The Department of Economy in Ireland, through Tourism NI, supports a more sustainable development of tourism in Ireland. One key program is Leaner and Greener, which provides businesses with templates and practical guides about conserving energy, reducing emissions, and cutting operating costs.

The government with their program called ZEVI is assigned to support public consumers and businesses to switch to zero-emission vehicles, reducing carbon footprints especially when the vehicles are charged with renewable energy sources.
Businesses are also joining the effort. For example, Erne Water Taxi offers guided vacations in Ireland on a fully electric boat. The owner, Barry Flanagan, invested in the boat in 2015 even though the price was substantially higher than the petrol boats. But, it reduced CO2 emissions and became profitable within 5 years- all while providing a quieter, less disruptive experience for wildlife.
Recycle and Upcycle
National reuse month was initiated by Waste Management Plan Lead Authorities. This month is full with events related to reusing, repairing, and upcycling items you have, utilizing their values greatly. This event can cut down waste and greenhouse gas emission.
One business that is leading by example in Boatyard Distillery. They use recycled glass, turn leftover fruit into marmalade and feed animals using grain waste from vodka production. Just small efforts like these show how sustainability can be part of everyday business operations.
