Incredible Eco Hotels
in the United States
The United States boasts some of the most wonderful natural splendors in the world. Whether you’re looking for beautiful coastlines, soaring mountain ranges, or dizzying canyons, there is a little something for everyone. The US is also home to some of the best eco hotels and lodges with die-hard missions to protect the environment. They incorporate green initiatives such as using solar power or renewable energy, growing their own organic gardens, and incorporating recycling systems. These sustainable hotels are a perfect place to stay if you want to travel in an eco-friendly manner.
The following are three of the best eco hotels in the United States.
Antlers at Vail
Located in Vail, Colorado, the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Antlers at Vail is one of the best sustainable hotels in the area. If you’re looking for an eco-friendly hotel to stay in while exploring the surrounding nature, this is the place for you.
Antlers at Vail has undertaken numerous green initiatives, including adding vehicle electric power stations, reducing water usage, adding solar panels, and using custom, refillable containers for shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. In the 1980s, the hotel tackled a smoke pollution problem caused by fireplaces. The hotel led the town of Vail into converting over 70 wood fireplaces into natural gas.
Antlers at Vail has previously been named ‘Vail Valley Green Business of the Year’, as well as received ‘Actively Green’ certification by Sustainable Travel International and a Green Leader by Trip Advisor.
Post Ranch Inn
Headed to California? The Post Ranch Inn is located in Big Sur, which sits on the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway about 150 miles south of San Francisco.
The eco hotel was made with all natural materials specifically designed to feel as if it co-exists with nature. Stilted tree houses made to protect the roots of Redwood and Oak trees sit along the steep hillside with incredible ocean views. The Post Ranch Inn also uses natural resources for guests and renewable energy to partially power the lodge.
Post Ranch Inn was number three on Trip Advisor’s ‘World’s Top 10 Environmentally-Friendly Accomodations in 2007.
Inn By the Sea
Cape Elizabeth, Maine, is home to a lovely eco hotel called Inn by the Sea. It is the perfect sustainable hotel to stay in if you want to explore the charming seaside towns of Maine.
The eco hotel provides fresh, sustainable seafood straight out of the Gulf of Maine and vegetables from nearby local gardens. Water from Sebago Lake is offered to guests in reusable bottles. Food is composted, plastics are recycled, and solar panels are used to heat the outdoor pool. Inn By the Sea also provides complimentary electric vehicle charging stations.
The hotel has been awarded various environmental certifications, including the Silver LEED certificate, Gulf of Maine Council 2017 Sustainability Industry Award, and Trip Advisors’s Top Ten Green Hotels Worldwide.
