Burning Man, USA | August 28 – September 5, 2022
Burning Man takes place every year in the black rock desert in Nevada, United States. This unique event is focused on building a community with art, self-expression, and self-reliance. The event is founded on several principles and culminates with the symbolic burning of a giant wooden effigy called “the Man” at this summer festival. Burning Man is one of the largest leave no trace events in the world, as it is one of the founding principals of the event. Festival organizers also plan to make the festival carbon neutral by 2030, hosts a recycling camp for attendees to recycle all cans (or volunteer to help!), and run a composting program for organic food waste. Splendour in the Grass, Australia | July 22 – 24, 2022
Splendour in the Grass is an annual summer festival in Australia held at the North Byron Parklands located in Yelgun, New South Wales. This exciting music festival attracts young adults from all over Australia to see their favorite performers. This year the headliners are Gorillaz, The Strokes, and Tyler, The Creator.
This outdoor music festival takes sustainability to the next level with its initiatives. There is a “Carbon Offset” option at checkout when purchasing tickets that will donate to environmental initiatives in the NSW region. Other eco-friendly initiatives include a bus network to help attendees get around without cars and taxis, reusable cups, encouragement of water bottle use, and waste reduction endeavors.
We Love Green, France | June 2 & June 4 – 6, 2022
We Love Green is a multi-genre outdoor music festival that invites international artists to the City of Love – Paris, France. This summer festival has become one of the most popular festivals in France in the most recent years, thanks to the excellent lineups. This year, the headliners are Gorillaz, Massive Attack, PNL, Phoenix, Angèle, and more.
This festival is sustainable and exemplifies “We Love Green.” Some of the initiatives include eco-toilets, limited paper use, food composting, green living workshops, and green discussions throughout the festival. In addition, the entire festival powers itself with solar panels and generators powered by recycled cooking oil.
