Beautiful and Sustainable
Luxury Safari Hotels in Africa

Luxury safari holidays are an amazing way to experience the natural beauty of Africa. Between observing endangered wildlife and taking in sprawling landscapes, a luxury safari getaway provides the ultimate unforgettable vacation. Several luxury safari lodges throughout Africa offer guests high-class accommodations and service, some even prioritize sustainable practices that conserve natural resources and protect global ecosystems. Examples of these practices within lodges include the use of solar-powered energy, limiting the use of laundry services to save water and using recycling systems.

The following are beautiful and sustainable luxury safari hotels in Africa.

Located in Okavango Delta, Botswana, the luxury safari Mombo Camp aims to maintain the traditions and history of the camp while celebrating one of their greatest conservation successes- the reintroduction of the black and white rhino into the wilderness.

Widely known as “the place of plenty”, Mombo is home to huge concentrations of plains game and their predators, which includes everything from gazelles to cheetahs, and lions. Rebuilt in 2018, Mombo consists of eight spacious suites with views of the surrounding wildlife, delectable dining options, and spa treatments. Guests will never find themselves bored while visiting Mombo, as there are many activities to take part in, such as daily safaris, helicopter tours, and even photography tours to capture amazing pictures of Africa’s nature.

The camp follows strict environmental measures for it to be sustainable. Mombo only uses solar-powered energy, has a highly efficient water filtration system to reduce the use of bottled water, and uses an above-ground sewage plant that ensures all water is clean before being entered into the environment. The camp is world-renowned and has been the recipient of over 50 awards, including the 2020 Highly Commended World Responsible Tourism Award for Conservation Heroes programme.

Kwitonda Lodge is one of Rwanda’s newest eco lodges and arguably one of the most sustainable, as, before its construction, the lodge established a nursery that is responsible for 250,000 indigenous trees. Located on the edge of Volcanoes National Park, where more than a third of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas live, Kwitonda Lodge combines adventure and contemporary elegance for guests to have the ideal luxury African safari experience.

The lodge features views of the nearby volcanoes, gorgeous suites with plunge pools, outdoor fireplaces, and a healthy menu with fresh produce from the lodge’s vegetable garden. Kwitonda Lodge also has plenty of unique activities to keep guests entertained that include, gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking, village tours, and hiking.

In addition to their previously mentioned reforestation nursery project, Kwitonda Lodge’s other sustainable efforts include the use of solar water heated hybrid systems, and the lodge is specially designed with steel frame structures that have reduced the use of environmentally detrimental concrete by up to 50%. The lodge was listed as one of the World’s Best New Hotels by Town & Country in 2020 and is also a part of an international network of organizations that uses the Bioregional One Planet Living framework, to ensure ongoing sustainability practices.

A luxury safari is a must-experience item on many traveller’s bucket lists. With luxury safari lodges to choose from that have sustainable practices, guests can feel at ease knowing they are supporting businesses that are protecting the environment.
